DIVE EXCURSIONS FOR CERTIFIED DIVERS

Explore the rich marine ecosystem surrounding JA Manafaru resort. Our daily dive excursions in the morning, afternoon, and evening will take you to some of the most exotic dive sites in the northernmost atoll of the Maldives. Find yourself surrounded by a colourful school of fishes. Take a closer look at the master of camouflage – the stonefish. Watch the friendly turtles as they scrape off seagrass and algae from the coral reef. Search for the sleeping nurse shark inside a cave or beneath an overhang. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced diver, you’ll be fascinated by the unique dive sites on this atoll.

MUST VISIT SITES

BILEHDHOO THILA

Level: Advanced Open Water

Distance from JA Manafaru Maldives: 40 minutes by dhoni

The thila is in the middle of the channel between Vaagaru and Inna Finolhu. The top of the reef is 10 metres. On the northwest side, you’ll find the edge of the shark point at 15 metres and a steep drop off to 30 metres. At 25 metres, there are some overhangs where you will see a sleeping nurse shark and some stingrays. The overhangs at different depths make this reef look very interesting. When you look into the blue, it is also common to spot some grey reef sharks. The current can be strong at this dive site, and it is suitable for experienced divers only.

GALLANDHOO FARU

Level: Open Water

Distance from JA Manafaru Maldives: 20 minutes by dhoni

This is an easy dive, perfect for beginners or experienced divers. The dive starts on top of the reef between 3 to 5 metres with a gentle slope to 25 metres. Here you will find massive corals full of different kinds of reef fish. Schools of fish such as surgeonfish, batfish, bannerfish, black snapper, and butterflyfish are abundant in this area. If you are a keen observer, you might even spot a scorpionfish camouflaged in its surroundings. If you look into the blue, there’s a chance you’ll see eagle rays passing by.

HUVAHANDHOO CORNER

Level: Open Water

Distance from JA Manafaru Maldives: 30 minutes by dhoni

The top reef starts at 10 metres and has a gentle slope up to 30 metres full of blue stripe snappers, anthias and butterflyfish. Here you will also find different kinds of beautiful hard corals surrounding the reef. Check out the different coral blocks to find some lobsters and small shrimp. Turtles and stingrays are also often seen passing by the reef. Here, you can expect mild to strong currents.
